What’s ‘La Petite Scierie’

La petite scierie (the little swamill), the name we chose for our farm, provided
us the boards necessary for breeding the ducks beginning 1987. That year, Catherine
got the diploma required for being farmer, and we settled our first 'laboratory'
(kitchen) where we prepare our dishes.
From the start, we decided to use the today so successful jars so-called 'grand-mère'
(grand ma). From the start we designed the recipes which we sell today, which did
not change since (and will not change in the future, they are traditional and this
is what matters the most...). We had to make money, one way or an other, so we attended
fairs and exhibitions. We got used to eat and propose our foie gras with the sweet
white wine from Anjou (Loire valley) named Coteaux du Layon. Coteaux du Layon is
a traditional sweet white wine.
In 1995, fairs became less popular in France, and we felt we needed a permanent place.
One opportunity later, in 1999, we had opened the La Petite Scierie shop, in the
St Louis Island, at the very place of the 'Rougets de l'Ile' a famous fish shop...
One year before, in 1998, we had built the 'longère', according to our dreams...
A wooden-built house, all assembled by us, 325 square meters, in only eight weeks...
and months of work to finish it : tiles, electricity, and, most importantly the plumbing
for our laboratory.
Since November 2007, La Petite Scierie (and us) does not attend any fair anymore...
Our shop, because of its so many customers, leads us everywhere in the world.

We thank our families, Mrs Valot,, the Royer family, the Bizouarne family, Jean Yves
Guinehut, Philippe Kotecki, Eve, Hubert, Marc, Mr Filleul, Bruno, et all of those
who helped us during our adventure...
